Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson says Donald Trump made a "huge mistake" in attacking Iran.
The former Conservative leader was seen as a major ally of the U.S President when he was in office, with the American leader even referring to him as "Britain Trump".
However, speaking to Italian newspaper La Stampa he offered criticism over the administration's decision to attack Iran, as well as its handling of the war in Ukraine and its intervention in the Hungarian election.
Attending the Link Media Festival in Trieste Mr Johnson said: "Is it possible no-one told him (Trump) the Revolutionary Guard would inevitably close the Strait of Hormuz, strangling world trade?

"It was a huge mistake to attack Iran; Trump walked into a trap. Then he made things worse with horrible rhetoric, like threatening to wipe out an entire civilisation.
"Europeans, including London, can't simply say that this is not our war in Iran. That's true, but we're all already involved in it. So it would be better to offer Trump help in ensuring free movement in the Strait of Hormuz and, in exchange, demand a clear shift in favour of Kyiv to finally end the war.
"In any case, we must be clear about who our friends and enemies are, we cannot ignore the alliance with the United States, and we certainly cannot side with Iran or Russia."
Mr Johnson also criticised President Trump and his administration for campaigning in the Hungarian election.
Vice-President JD Vance travelled to Budapest last week to campaign for Viktor Orbán, while the President promised economic support if the Fidesz leader is re-elected.
Mr Johnson said: "It's not good politics to meddle in other countries' election campaigns. Not just out of respect, but also because it's usually counterproductive.
"We Europeans, including the British, should do much more to support Kyiv. Orbán's pro-Russian stance is completely wrong.
"Unfortunately, Trump considers Orbán a key ally in Europe; they're in frequent contact. In fact, I fear he's in frequent contact with (Vladimir) Putin, too."
