Martin Lewis has shared good news for half a million teachers in the UK, now eligible for Blue Light Card discounts.

Since 2008, the Blue Light Card scheme has been a way for NHS and other emergency service to access discounts. It's now open to primary and secondary school teachers.

Memberships actually began last year, but due to technical issues, new sign ups from teachers were suspended soon after. Now it's back up and running.

What is a Blue Light card?

Blue Light Card costs £4.99 for two years' access. You'll need your education establishment email address, work ID, or a recent payslip to prove you're eligible for membership.

Blue Light Card says it offers 15,000+ high street and online discounts from large retailers and local businesses, covering fashion, days out, restaurants, holidays and more.

If you think you'll save more than a fiver in two years then a Blue Light Card can be worth it. There's a  Blue Light Card FAQs with full information.

Which teachers are eligible?

Blue Light Card says teaching and supporting staff working in any of the following can sign up:

  • Early years and primary schools
  • Secondary schools and sixth form colleges
  • Special schools, referral units, and centrally employed
