The Herald: Kevin McKenna unspun banner new

WITH two days remaining of COP26 in Glasgow, the race is on for the world’s leaders to agree on cutting carbon emissions and halting global warming.

But another race is gathering pace: who can produce that snappy quote that will tell future generations “it wiznae my fault”.

So, here’s a list of some of the top quotes thus far, and what they were all really thinking when they said them.

Boris Johnson

What he said: “Humanity has long since run down the clock on climate change. It’s one minute to midnight on that Doomsday clock and we need to act now.”

What he really meant: “It’s one minute before my chauffeur arrives to take me to my private jet at Prestwick Airport and a couple of snifters before closing time at the Garrick.”

US President Joe Biden

What he said: “The US is not only back at the table, but leading by example.”

What he really meant: “We only use sustainable energy sources in the making of our nuclear warheads.”
