Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon insists team-mate Scott Bain fully deserved his Scotland chance, but admits he plans to do everything he can to reclaim the gloves for club and country.

After Allan McGregor retired from international football, Bain was handed the jersey for the opening Euro 2020 qualifiers against Kazakhstan and San Marino.
The 27-year-old, who made his debut in last summer’s friendly defeat to Mexico, was given little protection from his defence in last Thursday’s 3-0 loss before being a spectator for much of Sunday’s 2-0 victory over San Marino.

Gordon, who has 54 caps, was not part of the Scotland set-up due to a knee injury that has kept him out of the last two Celtic squads and he has not played for the Bhoys since losing his place to Bain after the December 29 defeat to Rangers.
However, the 36 year-old admits he is still desperate to represent his country in future.
He said: “Scott has done very well since the turn of the year and I think it was the first game (against Kazakhstan) that it had not been either myself, McGregor or (David) Marshall to play in a competitive arena [in a long time].
“It’s a bit of an end of an era in terms of us three dominating that position over the last 14 years but he’s come into the Celtic team and hardly put a foot wrong in recent games. He fully deserved his chance to go in there.
“He’s still only 27, he’s definitely one that can go in there and play for many years to come but I’m hopeful I might get back there yet, there are a few injuries at the moment."

“But hopefully I can get back in there and challenge him at Celtic and for the international spot as well.”
